Behind the legendary design of the Cosmograph Daytona lies a modern story of Swiss watchmaking. Initially equipped with Valjoux movements, the Cosmograph Daytona featured the caliber 4030 in 1988, an adaptation of the Zenith El Primero caliber, the world’s first high-frequency self-winding chronograph movement. Rolex engineers worked to optimize this caliber, reducing its frequency to 4 Hz to ensure its robustness and reliability over time. In 2000, the introduction of Rolex’s caliber 4130 (which would evolve into the 4131 in 2023, or the 4132 for certain special editions) continued the pursuit of excellence initiated by the brand’s founder, Hans Wilsdorf. Developed and manufactured by Rolex, it has proven particularly reliable and durable even under the most demanding conditions.
